The New York State Senate has passed legislation that would bar many sex offenders from participating in social networking sites, and require others to register their online aliases. New York Attorney General Andrew M. Cuomo introduced the bill, known as the Electronic Security and Targeting of Online Predators (e-STOP) Act, and Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver has said he supports the measure.

Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa), who has been trying since 2005 to update the school nutrition standards, has failed in his attempts to have an amendment updating the standards attached to the massive federal farm bill.
